Anaimalai Horticulture Department: Providing Tissue Banana Saplings to Farmers for Modernized Agriculture Strategy

Anaimalai: ‘In Anaimalai, tissue banana saplings are provided to the farmers,’ said Gopinath, Assistant Director of Horticulture Department, Anaimalai.

In and around Anaimalai, coconut and banana are cultivated. Among them, under the Tamil Nadu Agriculture Modernization Project, banana seedlings are provided to the farmers by the Horticulture Department.

Anaimalai Horticulture Department Assistant Director Gopinath said: On behalf of Anaimalai Horticulture Department, Tamil Nadu Irrigation Management Modernization Project is going to be implemented.

Through the horticulture sector, it has modernized agriculture by introducing new project strategies in irrigation, introducing new crops and varieties that help increase farmers’ incomes.

In this scheme, eighty-six old Ayakatu villages, namely, Marchanayakkanpalayam, Periyapadu, Odayakulam, Anaimalai, Vedtikaranbutuar, Kaliapuram, Kotur, Somanthurai and Thensangampalayam villages have been selected.

Coconut, the main crop in these villages, nutmeg and plantain as intercrops are to be provided.

Water management, weed management and tillage management can be brought under control through high technology such as micro-irrigation and sub-flooding, thereby increasing the income of the farmers.

5.7 lakh target has been received and distributed to the farmers under the Tamil Nadu Irrigated Agriculture Modernization Scheme.

Tissue plantain, 72 ha, nutmeg, 65 ha and micro irrigation scheme, 24 ha are to be implemented. The ground clearance, four hectares are to be acquired and implemented.

Banana saplings are now being supplied through the Horticulture Department for the benefit of the farmers.

Farmers can apply by contacting the Horticulture Department office with chitta attachment, passport size photograph, Aadhaar card copy and proof of ownership.

Farmers can also benefit by booking through the Uzhavan app. Thus, he said.
