Analysis of Seven Doors, seven tests to squeeze your coconut

Developed by Indigo Studios and published by Soedesco, we are pleased to analyze Seven Doors, a puzzle game that will make us think a lot

Games belonging to the puzzle genre have been one of the genres that have benefited from the indie scene. And it is that thanks to these indie studios, which are committed to something different and are not afraid to experiment, we have received games of the likes of The Witness, The Pedestrian or The Talos Principle. Now, Thanks to the Spanish studio Indigo Studios and the publisher Soedesco, comes Seven Doors, a puzzle game with Escape Room components, which will test us in different ways. If you are interested in this title, then we will analyze the title in depth.

Will you be able to overcome the seven tests?

In Seven Doors do not expect a very elaborate or convoluted story, in this title only you and the puzzles matter. Our adventure begins in a corridor, with a door in front of us, and with a voice that tells us that seven tests await us behind and that if we will be able to overcome them. After this, the door in front of our character opens, and our first challenge awaits us. Perhaps a more elaborate story would have come in handy for the game, but what we cannot deny is its fabulous setting. All the rooms that we will go through are beautiful, with many elements on the screen and decorations that may or may not be part of the puzzles, but that make the game whole. The game lasts about 3 hours, since when we complete the seven main puzzles, another 3 optional puzzles open up.

The puzzles are a bit irregular. On the one hand there are some very well done, ingenious and that will make you rack your brain, and others that are not up to the task.. For example, the second riddle or the room of paintings seem very good to me. On the other hand, the last test, which should be the best in the game, seemed very bad to me, being able to overcome it based on trial and error, without having any idea why you solved it. Also, one of the rooms will be full of traps, so to overcome it, we must avoid them until we reach the next one. In this one you don’t have to solve any puzzle or riddle, just try not to die in the traps. I guess this was done by the studio to give the title some variety, but I think it went wrong, because due to the controls in the title, this room is very desperate.

Use your mind and your ingenuity

We have already talked about the puzzles of the title, now it is the turn of the controls and their gameplay. Our character has very few actions to perform, although we don’t need many to face the adventure either.. The game is in first person, having the actions of running, jumping, picking up objects, and in a riddle, shooting with a weapon. We only have these few actions, with which we will have to solve all the tests of the adventure. Notably the control is very orthopedic, our character seems to be lame, walking very slowly, and although running improves somewhat, he is not agile enough. This wouldn’t be a problem if it weren’t for the room mentioned above, the one full of traps, where we will die numerous times due to poor control of our character.

lights and many shadows

Seven Doors is a very nice game, the settings are very well recreated and they are very beautiful. The truth is that the graphic section, to be a low-budget title and with a very low price, €4.99 specifically, the game looks very good. In this aspect the game, at least in Series X, where I’ve played it, more than meets. But this aspect also has its negative part, and this part is lighting. The game is very dark, too. It is true that the lights and shadows are very well recreated, but the shadows are very dark, practically nothing can be seen. So dark does the game look that I had to turn up the brightness on the TV as I was having a hard time finding or seeing items needed to complete the puzzles.

The sound aspect is correct without more. Much more could have been used, giving that touch of oppressive and sometimes disturbing atmosphere that the study tries to show. Because some rooms are quite bad vibes, like the one we can see in the image we have above. Therefore, I think that this aspect has been somewhat wasted, that if something more had been worked on, Seven Doors would have won integers. Despite this, we can’t say anything negative either, surely Indigo Studios did what they could with the short budget they surely have had.

Seven Doors Conclusions

Seven Doors is a good puzzle game, maybe a bit short, but due to its price of only €4.99 it is more than justified. It is a very beautiful game graphically and the atmosphere and setting of the title is fantastic. The riddles are one of lime and the other of sand, there are some very ingenious and good and others that can be improved. Even with its hits and misses, it is a puzzle game totally recommended to lovers of this genre.
