The “People’s Rally” of the Municipality of Ioannita is asking for answers from the local authorities and also the government regarding closed public spaces and sports facilities, such as the Panepirotiko Stadium.
On the occasion of the fact that on Clean Monday the exteriors of PEAKI’s facilities were closed to the public, the head of the faction in the Municipality of Ioannina Oli Tsoumani spoke of “prohibition” but also of images of abandonment.
“For a long time there have been protests about the lack of staff, about the lack of lighting, about damages that are never repaired. Coaches, team athletes, individual athletes fight this situation with passion and honor, facing the complete indifference of the General Secretariat, the Municipality and the Region. A walk in the Panepirotiko is particularly informative with images of abandonment, decay in the athletics tartan and in the surrounding area, darkness prevailing everywhere, especially in the basketball courts”, noted Ms. Tsoumani, characterizing it as a highlight of the government’s treatment of public spaces, but and the municipal and regional authority that on Maundy Monday all sports centers in the city remained closed. “The day offered to parents to take their children, run, play, fly a kite. The day when popular families look for free spaces, following the corresponding customs, all the major sports facilities of the city remained closed. Parents and young children were met with disapproval and disappointment when they saw Panepirotiko, Limnopoula, Gianniotiko Saloni closed. No worries about where all this world is going to go. The Government, the Municipality and the Region have turned the city into a hostile one for its own residents,” he stressed, asking for an explanation about the Panepirotiko Stadium.
“Why is it inaccessible to residents? Why has the lighting issue not been resolved despite assurances? Why are damages not repaired? Why are the requests of coaches and athletes not being met? Why are the football infrastructures usable only by the city’s PAE?”, asks “Laiki Sispiroisa”, calling on the people of Ioannina, the athletes and the coaches “to make the right to sport a matter of competitive assertion”.
