A dominant performance at the plate has propelled Antonio Piñero into the spotlight, as the 26-year-old continues a remarkable breakout season with Caribes de Anzoátegui in the Liga Venezolana de Béisbol Profesional (LVBP).
Piñero showcased his power on Wednesday, launching his first home run of the campaign – and the third of his LVBP career – during a decisive victory over the Cardenales de Lara at the Antonio Herrera Gutiérrez Stadium in Barquisimeto. The native of Bejuma finished the game 5-for-3 with three runs batted in and two scored, contributing significantly too the Eastern teamS eight-run outburst.

Piñero’s journey to this point has been anything but straightforward. Originally signed by the Leones del caracas, he saw limited action – just 22 at-bats – during the 2021-2022 seasons.In February 2022, he was traded, along with Romer Cuadrado, to the Navigators of Magallanes in a deal involving Gabriel Noriega, Juan Infante, and Luis Rico.however, he never had the possibility to debut with the Navigators, being designated as a player without hiring priority before the 2023-2024 season.
Despite being recognized as a shortstop with exceptional defensive capabilities during his time as a prospect with the Milwaukee Brewers, Piñero struggled to consistently hit at the Minor League level. That has begun to change in recent years, but never to the extent he is experiencing now with Caribes.
Expanding Horizons
Piñero’s success isn’t limited to the LVBP. In 2025, he gained experience in Mexico, earning a spot on the First Team of the 2024 season in the Major League of Professional Baseball while playing for the Líderes de Miranda.This international exposure appears to have further refined his skills and boosted his confidence.
