Antonio Rüdiger has filed a criminal complaint against a journalist. The reason for this is a post on Instagram.
National player Antonio Rüdiger and the German Football Association (DFB) are taking legal action against ex-Bild editor-in-chief Julian Reichelt. As the SID news agency confirmed from both sides, Rüdiger filed a criminal complaint with the Berlin public prosecutor’s office.
The DFB also reported the case to the Central Office for Combating Internet Crime (ZIT) of the Frankfurt am Main Public Prosecutor’s Office. The “Bild” newspaper first reported about it.
Vilified for posting to Ramadan?
Rüdiger feels vilified and slandered for an Instagram photo at the beginning of the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan. SID has submitted his criminal complaint to the Berlin public prosecutor’s office: It relates to allegations of insult or slander, inflammatory insults and incitement to hatred.

According to a report in the “Bild” newspaper, it is about a photo that the devout Muslim shared on March 11th. In the picture, Rüdiger is squatting on a prayer rug in a white robe and pointing to heaven with the index finger of his right hand. “May the Almighty accept our fasting and prayers,” he wrote and wished all Muslims in the world a blessed Ramadan.
“Bild” further reported that Reichelt is said to have commented on this Instagram post on Platform X. With his statements, the former Springer journalist may have brought Rüdiger close to terrorists, writes “Bild”. The newspaper itself also received a letter from Rüdiger’s lawyers. Reichelt later wrote on Platform X that he found out about the ad in the media. However, he didn’t want to be intimidated by this.
The Real Madrid defense professional initially did not want to comment on a request from SID on Monday evening. The national team will play against the Netherlands in Frankfurt am Main on Tuesday (from 8:45 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online).
