The first ones you taught are the sisters Alice & Ellen Kessler (Germany 1959), who not only placed 8th out of 11 entries with a daring song for the time, but became the model for our Breuer sisters. The twins, born in 1936, are now 87 years old. They had a great career in Germany and Italy, posing together even for “Playboy”.
Two other twins, of the generation of 1962, h Sophie Gilles and the Magaly Gilles-Giovannoni they represented Luxembourg in 1980, finishing 9th out of 19 entries, with an allegory for anyone who aspires more than they can achieve. In their vocals, dressed as a penguin, the well-known composer Jean-Paul Cara. After he took advantage of them Ralph Siegel, giving them little of the abundant money the song made, he abandoned them. THE Magaly died of AIDS in 1996. H Sophie she went crazy: she lived locked in her house with the shutters closed. He passed away in 2019.
Two members of Athenai.e. the twins Gokhan (guitar and vocals) & Hakan Özoğuz (guitar and vocals) born in 1976 represented Turkey in 2004 and “threw the stage” with their energy. The song came 4th. The group has existed since 1987 and continues unabated.
10th in the first semi-final of 2009 were ranked Next Time (Некст Тайм), but they did not qualify, since the committees – with the then current system – chose Finland. The rock duo from the neighboring country consists of the brothers Martin & Stefan Filipovski who were born in 1986.
In 2010 the Alena & Ninel Karpovich (Алёна Карпович, Нинель Карпович) figure among them 3 + 2 for Belarus. The twins born in 1985 sometimes appear with the group and sometimes as a duo. For a year they presented the country’s public lottery. They came 24th in the final.
13th in the semi-final of 2011 came the Daniela & Veronika Nízlováborn in 1986, who competed for Slovakia under the nickname Twiins. Since then they appear in musicals and occasionally work as presenters.
2011 and 2012 are the reign of Jedwardthat is, of the twins John & Edward Grimes. Born in 1991, they are engaged in singing, modeling and presenting TV shows. Surprisingly fresh and modern for an Irish entry Lipstick, although it came 8th in the competition, entered the charts of many countries in Europe, but also in South Korea. The Waterline it came in at 19, however it charted in six countries.
In 2014 the Tolmachevy Sisters (Tolmachev Sisters), δηλαδή οι Anastasiya & Maria Tolmachevawho were born in 1997, represented Russia, in one of his songs Dimitris Kontopoulou, and ranked 7th. Previously, in 2006, they had triumphed in Junior Eurovision.
We arrive at 2017. The OG3NE they are the sisters Lisa, Amy & Shelley Vol. The last two are twins, born in 1995. In 2007 they represented the Netherlands at the Junior Eurovision, where they came 11th. In 2017 they climbed – again – to 11th place. not long after they lost their mother, who was already ill. They remain active.
Just last year the TuralTuranXthat is, the Tural & Turan Bagmanov (2000) sang for Azerbaijan and indeed in the first entry written in the Azeri language. They stayed in the semi-final, where they came 14th. They also had two brothers, Emin and the Jamalwho were killed in a car accident in 2015…
And we come to this year’s Melodifestivalen winners, Marcus & Martinus Gunnarsen. It is not the first time that Sweden is represented by a Norwegian artist. It has been preceded by Elisabeth Andreassen in 1982. The twins, born in 2002, won in 2012 at Melodi Grand Prix Juniorwith the Two drops of water (#8). Since then, they have released four albums and around 35 singles that made a splash in the Scandinavian countries and beyond (Austria, Belgium, Holland, Poland, Spain). In 2017 they gave the points of the Norwegian committee. The Airwith which they came 2nd behind the of flowers, peaked at #4 in the Swedish charts, but was snubbed by fellow Norwegians and didn’t sell enough. In the same position of Top has climbed – so far – and Unforgettable.
