Carl Weathers dies at 76

As Apollo Creed, Carl Weathers became a Hollywood star and later fought alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Predator.” It has now been announced that Weathers died on Thursday at the age of 76.

American actor Carl Weathers, known from the “Rocky” films and “Predator,” has died at the age of 76. His family said Weathers fell asleep peacefully. Weathers died Thursday, according to his manager Matt Luber.

The former football player started his Hollywood career in the 1970s and was mainly seen in action films and comedies.

His best-known role was that of Rocky’s arch enemy and later ally Apollo Creed, whom he played in four parts of the “Rocky” series from 1976 alongside Sylvester Stallone.

He fought alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Predator” in 1987 and taught Adam Sandler how to play golf in the comedy “Happy Gilmore” in 1996.

Schwarzenegger said Weathers “will always be a legend.” “An extraordinary athlete, a fantastic actor and a great human being. We couldn’t have made Predator without him. And we certainly wouldn’t have had such a wonderful time filming,” Schwarzenegger wrote on the Instagram platform.

Sandler called his deceased colleague a “great man” and a “true legend.” “It was always so much fun to be around him.” Weathers was damn smart, damn loyal and damn funny.

Weathers also appeared in numerous television series, such as “Arrested Development” and “Chicago Justice”. Most recently, he appeared in all three seasons of the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian.”
