Apple Empowers Developers with Expanded App Store Submission Options & In-App Purchase Flexibility
Table of Contents
Apple is significantly enhancing its tools for App Store developers, introducing greater flexibility in content submission, expanded capabilities for custom product pages, and a broadened range of options for In-App Purchase offers. These changes, announced today, aim to streamline the development process and provide developers with more control over how they present their apps and engage with users.
The tech giant’s latest moves underscore its ongoing commitment to fostering a thriving ecosystem for developers on its platform. According to a company release, the updates are designed to help developers succeed in a competitive marketplace.
Streamlined App Review Process with Independent Submissions
Developers will now be able to submit additional items to App Review independently of a full app submission. This new functionality offers a significant boost in agility, allowing for quicker updates and targeted improvements. For example, developers can now submit:
- In-App Events separately, even while a new app version is under review.
- An app version specifically to address a critical bug, without being tied to ongoing custom product page reviews.
- Game Center features – including achievements, leaderboards, and challenges – in a submission separate from a full app version.
This decoupling of submission processes promises to accelerate the release of key features and bug fixes, ultimately improving the user experience.
Doubling Down on Customization with Expanded Product Pages
Apple is also dramatically increasing the number of custom product pages developers can create, doubling the limit to 70. These pages allow developers to showcase specific features and content within their app or game using unique screenshots, app previews, and promotional text.
Furthermore, developers can now assign keywords to each custom product page, increasing their discoverability within the App Store’s search results. “Custom product pages with keywords assigned to them can appear in search results for those selected keywords instead of your default product page,” the company stated. This feature provides a powerful new avenue for app store optimization (ASO) and targeted marketing.
Offer Codes Now Support All In-App Purchase Types
A major expansion of offer codes is also being rolled out, now encompassing all In-App Purchase (IAP) types – including consumable, non-consumable, and non-renewing subscriptions – in addition to existing support for auto-renewable subscriptions. This allows developers to present users with limited-time offers for free or discounted IAPs, driving engagement and revenue.
The expanded support includes the ability to create offer codes for:
- Consumable, non-consumable, and non-renewing subscriptions.
- Auto-renewable subscriptions that will not automatically renew after the promotional period concludes.
Apple will update Schedule 1 and the Paid Applications Agreement (Schedules 2 and 3) to reflect the availability of offer codes for all IAP types.
Sunsetting of Promo Codes for In-App Purchases
While offer codes are gaining expanded functionality, Apple is phasing out promo codes for In-App Purchases. Starting March 26, 2026, developers will no longer be able to create promo codes for IAPs in App Store Connect. Existing promo codes will remain redeemable until their expiration dates. However, developers can continue to utilize promo codes to offer free app downloads.
One analyst noted that this transition is intended to streamline the offer system and provide developers with more robust configuration and customer eligibility options through offer codes.
These changes represent a significant investment by Apple in empowering its developer community, providing them with the tools and flexibility needed to thrive in the dynamic world of mobile applications.
