Apple “concerns the environment” – and will pay dearly for it

by time news

As you know, iPhone is the only smartphone in the world that comes with its own charging socket – “Lightning”, which Apple claims is more convenient and safer than various USB sockets. However, this type of charger is also significantly more expensive than others, and of course more rare, so it is more difficult for iPhone users to find a compatible charger to charge their devices. Until 2020, every iPhone came with a cable and adapter to a power outlet with a USB-A connection. In September 2020, the company announced the removal of the power adapter from the packaging, on the grounds of protecting the environment, and promised a cable that could connect to other chargers – but its new cable included a USB-C socket on the side of the power connection – a very rare connection on that side at the time. Therefore, there were almost no power adapters with such a socket, and consumers had to purchase such specifically for the iPhone.
