Until 2020, every iPhone came with a cable and adapter to a power outlet with a USB-A connection. In September 2020, the company announced the removal of the power adapter from the packaging, on the grounds of protecting the environment, and promised a cable that could connect to other chargers – but its new cable included a USB-C socket on the side of the power connection – a very rare connection on that side at the time. Therefore, there were almost no power adapters with such a socket, and consumers had to purchase such specifically for the iPhone.
