Apple Introduces HomeView Smart Display at $299

Apple introduced HomeView, a 7-inch smart display powered by Siri AI and designed to manage the home, while stirring fresh concerns among online recipe publishers over content extraction.

Apple introduced the device on October 13, 2026, positioning the 7-inch Liquid Retina display as a central home hub for smart home automation, music, FaceTime calls, and recipe management according to the company’s official press release. Powered by Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, HomeView relies on facial recognition to verify users and surface personal data from messages, calendars, and reminders when paired with a recently unlocked iPhone or iPad.

Pre-orders, Pricing, and International Availability

Pre-orders for both the tabletop Apple HomeView in silver, starlight, rose pink, and space gray and the Apple HomeView (Wall Mounted) in space gray and silver cost $299 in the United States. Customers in Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK can use Siri AI on HomeView. Singapore customers can pre-order starting October 15 at 9 a.m.

Schneider Home is offering three purpose-built wall mounts: the Power Mount USB-C Wall Connector at $59.95, the Power Mount AC Wired at $79.95, and the Power Mount PoE Wired scheduled for early 2027 at $129.95 (U.S.). Siri AI on the device operates in English across the U.S., Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa, and the UK, with Canadian French support planned via a future free software update.

Recipe Integration and the Kitchen Countertop Debate

HomeView functions as a kitchen assistant that can pull recipes from web pages, extract ingredient lists, and manage hands-free timers. Testers noted that using Apple’s Handoff feature allows a user to transfer a recipe straight from an iPhone to the display, which automatically displays step-by-step instructions. It’s incredibly seamless and useful, wrote Canoopsy on X, describing the feature as an incredible kitchen addition in a post highlighted by Cult of Mac.

That automated extraction has renewed anxieties among food writers and independent recipe developers reporting on the device’s impact. Critics argue that stripping web recipes down to bare instructions removes the context, advertisements, and affiliate links that creators rely on for income. Tools that just extract the recipe, Eater senior reporter Bettina Makalintal said, break apart that unspoken social contract with recipe developers and audiences. Makalintal added that additional commentary often helps home cooks troubleshoot swaps or problems during preparation. Saxena described HomeView’s approach as more like a continuation of the threats they’ve already seen according to coverage from The Verge.

Privacy Architecture and Environmental Commitments

To safeguard user data on shared household displays, personal app content remains hidden unless the device recognizes an enrolled user’s face and detects their unlocked iPhone or iPad nearby. Siri requests leverage either on-device processing or Private Cloud Compute, which prevents data storage or access by Apple or third parties.

The manufacturing process advances Apple’s goal to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire footprint by 2030. The hardware utilizes 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure base and wall model enclosures, 100 percent recycled gold plating and tin solder across printed circuit boards, and 100 percent recycled rare earth elements in its magnets, alongside 100 percent fiber-based paper packaging.
