Citizens who reported cases of fake receipts and falsified cash registers through the application are getting closer and closer to collecting amounts of up to 3,000 euros “Appodix”. In the next 24 hours, the first decisions are expected to be signed by its commander Independent Public Revenue Authority (AADE) Giorgos Pitsilis, which will “pave the way” for thousands of taxpayers to receive their reward as a reward as they contributed to tackling the tax evasion. The amounts they will receive range from 100 euros up to 3,000 euros and concern those who made a formal complaint from the control of which tax evasion occurred and a fine was imposed.

It is typical that more than 165,000 citizens have filed complaints through the “Appodixi” application of AADE, of which almost 75,000 are named and over 90,000 anonymous.

In accordance with the provisions, if, following a named complaint, through AADE’s “QR code appodixi” scanning application, which concerns retail sales data, a tax audit is carried out and a fine is imposed, for violation or falsification or interference with the operation of the Tax Electronic Mechanisms, the complainant receives a monetary reward following a decision of the Governor of AADE.

The monetary reward is ten times the transaction value of the issued retail item complained of, including applicable VAT. In no case can it be less than 100 euros, nor exceed 3,000 euros. If the complaint concerns several tax items issued by the same entity, the monetary reward is calculated on the issued tax item with the highest value. The employees of AADE, of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, as well as the employees of the Financial Police Directorate of the Ministry of Citizen Protection, who carry out audit duties, are not entitled to the monetary reward.

The prize money does not fall under any category of income and is exempt from any tax, withholding, fee or levy in favor of the State, Social Security Agencies, Legal Entities under Public Law or third parties and is inalienable and non-seizable in the hands of the State or third parties, notwithstanding any other provision, it is not bound and not set off against confirmed debts to the State, legal entities under public law, local government organizations and their legal entities, insurance funds and credit institutions and is not counted against the income limits for the payment of any social or of a welfare nature.

How the app works

Using the application, consumers can check the details and validity of a receipt, which they receive as part of their transaction, by scanning the QR code on it with their mobile phone.

More specifically :

1. The user opens the application and through the mobile camera, “scans” the QR code of the receipt.

2. Depending on the status of the receipt, the application generates the following messages:

  • The receipt has been forwarded to AADE. In this case, the details of the receipt are displayed (cash register number, company VAT number, receipt number, date and time of the transaction, VAT transaction value and in transactions with gas stations, the quantity and type of fuel). In this case, it is checked whether the information displayed in the application is the same as that displayed in the receipt. That is, if the value shown on the receipt is the same as the value that has been transmitted to AADE. If there is a difference, this means that there has probably been an intervention in the tax mechanism of the business, so that a different amount appears on the customer’s receipt and another, smaller amount is transferred to AADE.
  • The receipt is declared, but the receipt has not yet been forwarded to AADE. In this case, the date and time beyond which the receipt should have been sent to AADE is indicated. If the receipt has been issued before this point, the report for non-transmission of the receipt is indicated.
  • The QR code cannot be read or the cash register is not declared or is not active. In this case, submitting a report to the application is indicated.
