After the fall of the Soviet Republic, the countries that emerged were Armenia and Azerbaijan. Between these two countries, the border dispute centered on the Nagorno-Karabakh province has been ongoing.

Thousands have died in this border dispute. In that way, in the 6-week war that started in September 2020, Azerbaijan captured a large part of the Nagorno-Karabakh province under the control of Armenia. The war ended with the intervention of Russia.

Even after the end of the war, Armenian-Azerbaijani border clashes continue from time to time. Hundreds of people are dying in this conflict.

In this situation, India has signed an agreement to sell indigenously manufactured weapons, including Pinaga missiles, to Armenia worth Rs 2,000 crore.

Earlier, it had signed an agreement to supply radar equipment to Armenia in 2020. But this is the first time that India has supplied indigenously manufactured Pinaga missiles to Armenia.

It has been reported that Armenia will use weapons purchased from India, including these missiles, in the war with Azerbaijan.

Various reasons have been given for India selling weapons including missiles to Armenia.

Accordingly, India has stepped up its efforts to sell domestically produced weapons abroad under the Make in India programme. As part of this, the Philippines has already purchased Bramos missiles from India and India has offered to sell Pinaga missiles to Armenia as well.

Also, Azerbaijan is one of the countries that has taken an anti-India stand on the Kashmir issue. Likewise, Turkey has been anti-India in the last few years. Turkey and Azerbaijan have taken a pro-Pakistan and anti-India stance on the Kashmir issue.

Turkey and Pakistan have been providing arms to Azerbaijan in its war with Armenia. In particular, Turkey has been providing large amounts of military aid to Azerbaijan.

Cyprus is an island nation in the Mediterranean. Turkey has invaded this country and captured a part of the island nation. The Greek language culture of Cyprus is closely related to Greece and European countries. Because of this, there is already a problem between Greece and Turkey over the island of Cyprus.

While Turkey has taken a stand against India on the Kashmir issue, recently India has also been taking action against Turkey. In that way, India had taken a position against Turkey in the Cyprus issue. Currently, India’s provision of arms to Armenia while Turkey is supporting Azerbaijan in the war has also received international attention. It is noteworthy that while Russia has been taking a pro-Armenian stance in this war, Russia has been keeping a soft line on this issue due to the war with Ukraine.

India has offered to sell arms to Armenia against Turkey and Azerbaijan in the situation where Turkey and Azerbaijan are doing many things in support of Pakistan and against India, including the Kashmir issue, which has attracted international attention.
