WASHINGTON, DC ∙ US Defense Secretary Lois Austin has announced that as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues, it has begun steps to strengthen the Ukrainian military’s offensive and rapidly send more weapons to Ukraine to counter the Russian military.
Four rocket launchers will be provided soon as part of US military assistance. Earlier, 12 rocket launchers were provided. Austin said 200 Ukrainian soldiers have been trained in rock-launching.
Austin said that the Russian military’s continuous shelling of cities in Ukraine has resulted in the killing of innocent people and the displacement of hundreds of people.
The Secretary of Defense said that Russia should decide to immediately end the war that has been going on for five months and if Russia is not ready for that, the US will be ready to provide more military assistance to Ukraine.
He added that the United States has provided $6.1 billion in military aid to Ukraine since the start of the war in February.
