The young Frenchman was beaten this Saturday by the Serbian Hamad Medjedovic in the final.

Arthur Fils, 36th player in the world, lost in the final of the Next Gen ATP Finals, the Masters for under-22s, beaten by Serbian Hamad Medjedovic (110th), Saturday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

The Frenchman lost 3-4 (6/8), 4-1, 4-2, 3-4 (9/11), 4-1 against Novak Djokovic’s protégé. Winner of his compatriot Luca Van Assche the day before in the semi-final, Fils, who was seeded N.1 in this event, ended up breaking in five sets. Despite winning the first and fourth sets in the tie-break, he was betrayed by too much nervousness in the last, notably receiving a penalty point after smashing his racket.

Medjedovic, particularly efficient on serve (19 aces) and powerful on the forehand, took the opportunity to escape with a score of 3-0 and win the 6th edition of the Next Gen Masters. This end-of-season event serves as a laboratory for the introduction of new rules, such as sets in 4 winning games, the elimination of the advantage at 40-A or even the reduction of time to serve.
