Sources told India Today TV on Sunday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal told the Enforcement Directorate during questioning that he did not remember where he kept the mobile phone he allegedly used while formulating the excise policy.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Kejriwal was arrested by the Central Investigation Agency on Thursday in the Delhi Excise Policy case. He is currently in ED custody till March 28.

Sources say the Enforcement Directorate wants to extract some data from the phone where Kejriwal is said to have spoken to Samir Mahendru, another accused in the liquor case. Sources added that the Chief Minister spoke to Mahendru over the phone and told him that Vijay Nair is his son and that he can trust him.

The ED chargesheet alleged that Vijay Nair, who was the Aam Aadmi Party’s media in-charge, acted as an intermediary between the ‘South Group’. It paid a Rs 100 crore kickback to the Kejriwal government to gain entry into the liquor retail business in Delhi.

In a remand application filed by the Central Investigation Agency in a Delhi court on Friday, it had accused Kejriwal of being “the mastermind and kingpin of the Delhi Excise policy scam”. He is directly involved in formulating policy, soliciting corrupt money and handling the proceeds of crime, the chargesheet says.

However, Kejriwal denied the allegations, stating that there was no evidence linking him to the alleged corruption in the now scrapped policy.
