jpnn.com – JAKARTA – The Indonesian U-23 national team made new history by advancing to the semifinals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.
The Garuda Muda team was certain to advance to the semifinals after defeating the top team, South Korea, in a penalty shootout 11-10, after the normal round and additional time the score was a draw, 2-2.
PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir expressed his extraordinary gratitude and pride for the success of the Indonesian U-23 National Team in advancing to the semifinals of the 2024 U-23 Asian Cup.
“Thank God. I am grateful to the Almighty, and I feel proud of the players, coaches, officials and the entire national team who played extraordinary and continue to create history for Indonesian football,” said Erick Thohir as quoted by PSSI, Friday (26/4) .
He added that this golden generation of young footballers had fought with high enthusiasm, mental steel, and given their best for Indonesia.
“Thank you,” said Erick Thohir, who was a direct witness to the victory.
Erick said that Garuda Muda deserved to be crowned as the new history maker of Indonesian football, because it was able to bring a good name to the nation by qualifying for the semifinals of the U-23 Asian Cup for the first time.
The victory in the match which took place at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Doha, Qatar, Thursday (24/4) Qatar time, or Friday (25/5) in Indonesia, did not only create new history.
Erick Thohir emphasized that Garuda Muda deserves to be crowned as the new history maker of Indonesian football.
