The Australian Open tennis series, one of the Grand Slam series, takes place in Melbourne. The 2nd round matches took place yesterday. In the women’s singles, number one seed Ashley Party of Australia clashed with Lucia Broncetti of Italy. The party won the straight set 6-1,6-1.

8th seed Paula Badosa of Spain defeated Martina Travis of Italy 6-0, 6-3. 15th seed Elena Svitolina of Ukraine defeated Harmonidan of France 6-3, 5-7, 5-1.
Jessica qualifies …
Belarus’ Victoria Azarenka defeated Switzerland’s Jill Deachman 6-1, 6-2, Italy’s Camila Giorgi 6-2, 7-6, Theresa Martinkova of the Czech Republic to advance to the third round. Madison Keys and Jessica Begula of the United States also advanced to the 3rd round. In the men’s one-and-a-half second round, Italy’s Lorenzo Soneko defeated Germany’s Oscar Otte 2-6,6-2,6-3,6-1.
