On the first day of appearances of the candidates to preside over the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH), their speeches focused on pointing out the flaws of the organization under the presidency of Stone Rosary.
Among the 17 participants who appeared before the United Commissions on Human Rights and Justiceone of the hardest with Ibarra Stone was Jesus Gonzalez Schmallawyer, promoter of human rights and Morena activist, who pointed out that the ombudsperson concentrated the power of the institute after the resignation of its Advisory Council a year ago.
“This previous period (…) there was the vice of a concentration of power that led to a decline of the Commission, which did not achieve its objectives; Among the complaints against the Armed Forces, there were 1,800 and only 23 were attended to.”
In the long session in the Upper House, activists, academics and even state presidents of Human Rights Commissions They presented their arguments to be the next ombudsperson, and in the process they presented, without mentioning her by name, the current head of the CNDH.
Just like on Tuesday, when 12 of 14 human rights organizations rejected the idea that Ibarra Stone is re-elected in office, the candidates to succeed her offered broader visions of what the Commission should do, such as promoting the rights of indigenous communities, children or people with some type of disability. And even stand up to the Government in power and its decisions.
Another of the accusations against the daughter of the historical activist Rosario Ibarra de Piedra was that of ombudsperson Morelos, the lawyer Raúl Israel Hernández Cruz, who exposed the National Commission, which “scold them” in 2022, when they issued a recommendation to the bishop of Morelos, Ramón Castro Castro, who blamed homosexuals and women who have abortions for being the causes. of the Covid-19:
“We issued a recommendation, which by the way was rejected and sent for challenge; the victims who come to us go to the CNDH to protest against this rejection, and what do you think happened in the National Human Rights Commission? They went to scold us, to tell us that we exceeded our function, because the violation did not occur from an authority, but from a bishop (…) it leaves them worse than how they come to ask for justice, to ask for the damage to be repaired, since “That’s what these vulnerable groups face.”
The appearances of the candidates will continue this Friday and will conclude on Saturday; the current president of theThe National Commission, Rosario Piedra will participate today at 4:30 p.m., and the ombudsperson of Mexico City, Nashieli Ramírez Hernández, will also attend. who has the support of several organizations and activists.
