After the failed approval of the Reforms to the Penal Code, Correismo is already thinking about the future of the so-called legislative agreement with the PSC and the ADN government bench. And one of the possible scenarios is to become a direct and radical opposition.

In the next few hours, Correismo will hold a meeting with the bloc and its main political leaders to make the decision. Furthermore, this February 26, assemblyman José Luis Vallejo acknowledged that there is unrest in the Correísta ranks, because there was a consensus to vote on the reforms in two blocks, as proposed by the president of the Justice Commission, Fernando Cedeño, but, in the end ADN AND PSC changed their minds.

Several legislators from the Citizen Revolution (RC) movement have spoken in recent hours and agree that they cannot delay defining a position any longer and that any decision must be adopted this week.

“Right now, we are opposition, but we are a critical, purposeful opposition, which we have carried out with height. But, we can have a more direct and radical opposition, given the results we have obtained such as in the reforms to the COIP,” said Vallejo.

Last week, after the two voting blocks, proposed by Correism, did not obtain votes for their approval, the vice president of the Assembly, Viviana Veloz, warned that they will analyze the relationship with their allies.

A source close to the RC told PRIMICIAS that at this moment “the agreement is dead,” but Veloz, or whoever the party designates, will be in charge of the official announcement after debating the pros and cons of this alliance.

Official reaction

Isabel Alarcón, head of the ADN bloc, said that the alliance they maintain with Correism has materialized in specific issues, on the proposals sent by President Daniel Noboa. This has happened with the urgent economic laws that have come from the Executive function.
