The Swiss international transport and logistics company AsstrA – Associated Traffic AG is analyzing market interest in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TMTM or Middle Corridor).

As Day.Az reports, Ramilya Akhmetova, director of AsstrA in Kazakhstan, told Trend about this.

“We are analyzing how interested the market is in the Middle Corridor (TMTM), looking at how the needs and supply opportunities are changing. The main thing is the needs of our customers. We see customer interest in alternative routes, therefore, despite technical and documentation challenges, we are actively “We are working to improve service in this direction and optimize processes. Since the route is still in its infancy, especially in terms of infrastructure, our specialists calculate possible risks in advance and try to find possible solutions to problems in advance, before they occur,” she emphasized.

According to her, at the same time, statistics show that interest in this path is a market trend.

“In 2023, the demand for cargo transportation along the TMTM has grown significantly. For example, in 2022, the volume of cargo transportation along the Middle Corridor amounted to 1.6 million tons, while in 2023 this figure increased to 2.75 million tons, which is an increase 86 percent increase compared to 2022,” she added.

Note that the Middle Corridor connects the container rail freight networks of China and the countries of the European Union through the countries of Central Asia, the Caucasus, Turkey and Eastern Europe.

A multilateral multimodal transport infrastructure links ferry terminals of the Caspian and Black Seas with the railway systems of China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Ukraine and Poland.

The middle corridor contributes to an increase in cargo traffic from China to Turkey, as well as to European countries and in the opposite direction.

A block train running along this corridor delivers goods from China to Europe in an average of 20-25 days, and this is one of the main advantages of this transport corridor.
