An international team of astronomers used photographs captured by the DECam’s 570-megapixel astronomical camera. This is to develop a map of the Milky Way that is the most detailed, enabling them to monitor the 3.32 billion stars and other celestial bodies located on the disk of our galaxy. The scientific research in this regard was published in The Astrophysical Journal.

“The combination of our photographs and photographs taken by the automatic Pan-STARRS telescope allowed us to obtain a 360-degree survey of the entire disk of the Milky Way, including the very faint stars,” said Andrew Saigari, a researcher at Harvard University. “Our star catalog will allow the study of the triangular structure.” Dimensions of our galaxy and the distribution of dust and stars in it.

It is noteworthy that the DECam astronomical camera was manufactured in 2013 as part of the Dark Energy Survey project, which aims to search for traces of dark energy. In 2016, astronomers were able to discover, with the help of this camera, the most distant dwarf planets in the solar system, as the year lasts 1139 Earth years.

Andreu Saigari and his colleagues have been working for years to create the most detailed maps of the Milky Way, using photographs and scientific data from this astronomical camera. During the last two years of its operation, the camera was able to study about 6.5% of the area of the night sky, which allowed scientists to prepare a map of the southern part of our galaxy.
