Time.news – The budget of victims of the fires in Maui rose to 80: the figure is provided by local authorities, while the Hawaiian island was again hit by a new fire which led to theevacuation order for Kaanapaliin the West, immediately north of Lahaina, the historic city that was devastated by fires earlier in the week.
Maui County officials said the new fire, which broke out near a county gas station used to distribute gas and diesel to residents, was 100 percent contained Friday evening. A curfew has been in effect since Friday night in parts of Maui affected by the fires.
Local authorities report that the death toll is set to increase with the start of searches for the missing in seriously damaged houses and buildings. “We expect bad news in the next couple of days,” said Democratic Senator from Haeai, Brian Schatz.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency estimates that rebuilding in Maui County will cost $5.52 billion.
