In Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport, the flooding that arose after heavy rain that hit the capital on Thursday, July 15, was completely eliminated. This was announced by Anna Zakharenkova, director of public relations at the airport.
“Everything has been liquidated long ago. I also emphasize that the flooding due to a large-scale downpour in several places of the airfield surface did not in any way affect the performance of flights, “she told RIA Novosti.
Zakharenkova clarified that in the conditions of a thunderstorm front, the commanders of the aircraft independently, for the safety of passengers, made a decision to take off or land.
Earlier that day, Izvestia possessed footage showing a flooded parking lot at the airport. Also in Sheremetyevo runways were flooded. In the videos published on the Web, the planes were standing in huge puddles.
According to the timetable, 21 flights were delayed at Sheremetyevo on Thursday, two more were canceled.
Thunderstorms hit a number of metropolitan areas on Thursday. In particular, heavy rains took place in the city center, as well as in the west, north-west and south-west of Moscow.
