Reportedly, a woman was arrested for eating at a hotel without wearing a hijab in Iran. The family alleges that the Iranian police arrested a woman named Dhonya Raad. The footage of Dhonya and another young woman friend eating food in a hotel without covering their heads went viral on social media. The family responded to the international media that the woman was arrested after this.

A picture from one of the most common tea shops in Iran has gone viral since Wednesday. These tea shops are frequented by men. After the picture went viral, Dhonya’s sister told the international media that the security agency called her sister and asked for an explanation. Dhonya’s sister alleges that he was arrested when he went to give an explanation and after hours there was no information. The family suspects that Dhonya was imprisoned in the infamous Evin prison in Tehran.

Evin Prison, controlled by Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence, is a place where political and ideological dissenters are imprisoned. Recently, many people have been detained illegally in Iran. The international media reports that writer Mona Borsouwei, Iranian football player Hossein Mahini, and Faysei Rafsanjani, daughter of former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, have been detained here recently.

Musician Shervin Hajipour was also arrested this week after he composed a song based on tweets by Iranians explaining why there are ongoing protests in Iran. Shervin’s song was shared in support of the current protests, including by Iranians outside the country. The protest started in Iran after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was brutally attacked and killed after being detained for allegedly not wearing a proper headscarf. Mahsa Amini was killed on September 16. As part of the agitation, scenes of women taking off their hijabs in public streets, burning them and cutting their hair have been released in recent days.

But the Iranian government views the uprising as a foreign conspiracy. It is indicated that many people were killed in the clash with the army as part of the agitation. According to human rights organizations in Iran, 83 people, including children, have already been killed. By restricting WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and Instagram, the Iranian government has been able to control images of protests outside of Iran.
