WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Luciano Darderi and Lorenzo Sonego are advancing in the Winston-Salem ATP 250 tournament.

Two Italian tennis players secure spots in the round of 16, while two compatriots are eliminated.

Matteo Arnaldi and Mattia Bellucci were both eliminated from the competition.

Darderi Dazzles in Three Sets

Luciano Darderi, ranked No. 34 in the world, overcame American Macchndenzie McDonald, who is ranked No. 101. The 23-year-old Darderi won the match with a score of 7-6 (7/5), 6-7 (6/8), 6-4. His next opponent will be Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic, who is ranked No. 45.

Sonego Surges Past Wild Card

Lorenzo Sonego, the 30-year-old from Turin ranked No. 35, defeated American Wild Card Stefan Dostanic, ranked No. 412. Sonego secured his win with a 6-3, 6-7 (2/7), 7-6 (7/3) score. He is set to face Spain’s Jaume Munar, ranked No. 46, in the next round. Munar had previously defeated Mattia Bellucci, ranked No. 63, with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Arnaldi’s Run Ends

Matteo Arnaldi, ranked No. 62, was eliminated by Botic Van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands, who is ranked No. 92. The match concluded with Van de Zandschulp winning 6-3, 6-3.
