After a meeting held by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) with Antony Blinken, US Secretary of State, starting today, January 4, it has been decided to reopen 4 border crossings, however, the Undersecretary of Border Policy and Immigration of the Department of Homeland Security, Blas Núñez-Neto, reported that there is a constant evaluation of the migratory flow that could lead to new closures.

US officials assure that the decision is accompanied by the strengthening of current immigration laws to prevent the massive crossing of migrants along the border.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) made it clear which are the 4 border crossings that will reopen. They are: Eagle Pass, in Texas; San Ysidro in San Diego, California; Lukeville, Arizona; Morley Gate Pedestrian Entry Port in Nogales, Arizona.

Likewise, he reported that, in the case of Eagle Pass, Texas, on the Eagle Pass 1 International Bridge, operations will begin at 07:00 hours. For its part, in San Ysidro, California, at the West entrance, they will start at 6:00 a.m.

Lukeville, Arizona, will begin operating at 6:00 a.m., and at the Morley Gate pedestrian crossing in Nogales, Arizona, the gates will reopen at 10:00 a.m.

The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will be the only one in charge of resuming operations at the four border points.

In the midst of the tightening of restrictions along the entire border, with the aim of containing the large numbers of people seeking to cross into the United States, this news is received, which could, in a certain way, alleviate the despair of many migrants who have been waiting for months in Mexico until they can reach a CBP One appointment.

This month, Mexican officials are scheduled to visit Washington to continue discussions on migration and borders.

Another point during this meeting in Aztec land was to “regularize” migrants who have been undocumented for several years and already beneficiaries of DACA. In this sense, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, created in 2012, protects thousands of young immigrants who arrived or stayed in the United States illegally from deportation. before turning 16 years old.

In general terms, both leaders reaffirmed their commitments to strengthen collaboration to “address the root causes of migration, such as poverty, inequality and violence, as well as a joint initiative for Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans,” it said. See a CNN report.
