It is part of a unique restocking program in the world for this endangered species
380 specimens of white seahorses released in Sydney Harbour, Australia. It is an endangered species that the Australian government wants to preserve by carrying out a unique recovery program in the world. Never had so many specimens been released simultaneously. The seahorses were bred in captivity by the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) and were released in Chowder Bay on the north side of the harbour. The seahorse was placed on the endangered species list in 2020. Habitat destruction and repeated rainfall events hastened the disappearance of the species in Sydney Harbor and Port Stephens. Marine scientists hope to make another release in the new year
