Modi Hoists Saffron Flag, Marking Completion of Ram Temple construction in Ayodhya

The ceremonial hoisting of a saffron flag atop the newly constructed Ram temple in Ayodhya on Tuesday, november 25, 2025, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, formally signifies the completion of the temple’s construction phase. The Prime Minister was joined during the ceremony by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, and Chief Minister yogi Adityanath.

The culmination of decades of anticipation and dedicated effort, the flag hoisting was met with widespread celebration and devotional fervor throughout the city of Ayodhya. Thousands of pilgrims and religious leaders converged on the temple town, echoing chants of “Jai Shri Ram” as they awaited the historic event.

A Symbol of Sacrifice and dedication

The flag itself, a striking right-angled triangle measuring 10 feet in height and 20 feet in length, is rich in symbolism. It prominently features a radiant Sun, the sacred ‘Om’ symbol, and the Kovidara tree. According too temple officials, the hoisting occurred during the “Abhijit Muhurat,” a planetary constellation considered notably auspicious within Hinduism.

“The saffron color of the flag represents fire and the rising sun – embodying sacrifice and dedication,” explained a senior representative of the Shri Ram janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, Champat Rai. He further stated that the ceremony officially marks the end of the temple’s construction phase.

Devotional Fervor and Security measures

Earlier in the day, Ayodhya was brimming with devotional energy as devotees streamed into the city. The event, known as “Dhwaj Arohan” – a sacred flag hoisting ceremony – was described by visiting seers and pilgrims as a moment of historic fulfillment.

A special invitee to the Ram Mandir Trust shared details of the day’s schedule, stating, “The rituals are complete. The prime minister will enter the premises at 10 am and stay until around 1.30 pm. ‘Darshan’, ‘pooja’, ‘dhwaj arohan’ and an address will all take place during this period.” Public access for darshan (viewing of the deity) is anticipated to resume Tuesday evening, or at the latest, Wednesday, November 26, 2025, according to an official.

The city was placed under a robust security blanket, with 6,970 personnel deployed, including ATS commandos, NSG snipers, and cyber experts. Anti-drone systems and advanced surveillance technology were actively monitoring the temple complex and surrounding areas. Security measures included extensive vehicle checks, passenger questioning, and the presence of bomb squads, dog squads, and rapid response teams.
