Azerbaijan is ready to establish a dialogue with China on COP29 issues.
As Day.Az reports on Tuesday, this was stated by Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan – Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev in an interview with the Global Times.
“Azerbaijan is open to dialogue and interaction with all parties on the fundamental issues of COP29. China is one of the leading countries in the world. Therefore, holding initial consultations and discussions to understand China’s position in the negotiation process is crucial for us,” he said.
Hajiyev noted that China is a leader in the field of green technologies, and Azerbaijan, as a good friend, appreciates the progress made by China in a short period of time in achieving important goals related to the transition to green technologies.
“Based on the Chinese concept of the Global Development Initiative and sharing technology and achievements with developing countries, we look forward to working together to ensure that the voice of the Global South is heard and understood through the mainstream process. These are the initial areas in which we want cooperate with our Chinese partners, as well as with other partners,” he emphasized.
Hajiyev also mentioned that hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan and receiving support from the international community further demonstrates the respect and trust that the international community has in Azerbaijan.
“Taking the presidency and effectively hosting COP29 is a significant achievement for Azerbaijan. It represents both a challenge and an opportunity for our country,” he added.
