Real Madrid star Karim Benzema won the Ballon d’Or award. French striker Karim Benzema of Spanish club Real Madrid was awarded the Ballon d’Or award for his best performance last season. Benzema is the fifth French player to win the Ballon d’Or award. Benzema is the first French footballer to win the Ballon d’Or since Zinedine Zidane won it in 1998.
Benzema won the Champions League and the Spanish League for Real through his brilliant performance. Benzema scored 44 goals in 46 matches. Benzema won the Ballon d’Or award for the first time. Barcelona’s Alexia Putellas won the award for the best female player.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Erling Holland, Mohamed Salah and Robert Lewandowski were also on the list of possibilities. Benzema beat all of them to win the award. The current Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi was not included in the list of possibilities. Barcelona’s Gavi deserves the Copa trophy for the young player. Real Madrid’s Thibaut Courtois won the best goalkeeper award. Barcelona’s Robert Lewandowski was awarded the Gerd Müller Award for Best Striker.
