A new installment of the jackass franchise is slated for release in late june, and bam margera has revealed his involvement will be limited to archival footage, while also detailing the emotional toll of his exclusion from the previous film.
Following Johnny Knoxville’s announcement of a fifth Jackass movie just last week, speculation immediately turned to the status of Bam Margera, a longtime member of the stunt crew who was absent from Jackass Forever due to a contract dispute stemming from his sobriety journey. Now, Margera has publicly addressed his participation in the upcoming film, clarifying his role and airing lingering grievances.
Margera’s Return: Footage Only
While Margera has reached a deal allowing the use of previously filmed material in Jackass 5, he confirmed he will not be filming any new stunts for the franchise. During a recent interview with TMZ, Margera revealed he is still grappling with the fallout from being cut from Jackass Forever.
“If you had a laundry list of the chain of horrible events of the two years of Covid that they put me through, spending my own money at an alarming rate for therapists, doctors and treatment and all this only to sit me down and tell me you’re not in the movie and you’re not getting five million dollars …. i want to do anything.”
The rift with Johnny Knoxville and director Jeff tremaine remains unresolved. “No, I haven’t [squashed the beef],” Margera admitted. “I’m still friends with everybody on Jackass. We saw Chris Pontius, which was nice. But for Tremaine and Knoxville to sit me down after everything I’ve been through and simply say, ‘You’re not in it. you’re not getting the $5 million you usually get,’ I mean, 50 percent of why Jackass exists is becuase of CKY. So I was very angry. now I’m not angry, but I’m just hurt and as of now, I don’t even want to think about reuniting with anybody.”
Margera concluded with a blunt assessment of his feelings toward the pair: “My feelings to them are still fuck you.”
What we certainly know About Jackass 5
Details surrounding the fifth Jackass film remain scarce. While the full cast has not yet been announced, Johnny Knoxville’s Instagram post suggests his continued involvement. Fellow Jackass star Steve-O commented “Yeah dude!!!” on the announcement, further fueling anticipation.
Steve-O hinted at the possibility of a new installment during a Loudwire Nights interview last fall, stating, “We had a number of Zoom calls and stuff to figure out different ways to commemorate [the anniversary]. What we landed on was a bit more ambitious then timely, but this next year, we’re likely to see the Jackass franchise rear its ugly head.”
The involvement of Jeff Tremaine, director of the previous Jackass films, appears likely, given a post shared by his production company, Gorilla Flicks.
Margera’s participation, through the use of previously recorded footage,is now confirmed. Jackass Forever introduced new stunt performers, but it remains to be seen which familiar faces will join them in the latest installment.

Despite the lingering animosity, Margera appears to be in a positive place, focusing on his return to skateboarding and his marriage. His willingness to allow the use of his past footage suggests a degree of acceptance, even as he maintains a firm boundary regarding future involvement with the Jackass franchise.
