Banco Santander, chaired by Ana Botín, has obtained the ‘Aenor Brand of Restoration Services’ seal, which certifies food safety in the entity’s corporate restaurants.

Banco Santander thus becomes the first Spanish company to receive this seal, according to the entity itself in a statement.

Aenor has analyzed Banco Santander’s catering facilities, used by more than 5,500 people a day, focusing on aspects such as cleaning and disinfection in food handling, and waste management.

The Aenor certification covers the buildings Alhambra, Castellana 24, Mauricio Legendre, Santa Bárbara, and those of the Ciudad Grupo Santander, including the nursery school. The seal is applied to all Banco Santander catering facilities, including kitchens, warehouses, restaurants, and vending machines.

Belén Sánchez, the director of General Services and Corporate Insurance of Grupo Santander, has pointed out that this certification “represents recognition of the work that the bank has been doing for years to offer its professionals the best service, with quality and security, as well as such as healthy and sustainable eating, as main pillars”.

For his part, Javier Mejía, Aenor’s Director of Marketing and Business Development, stated that Banco Santander has demonstrated its commitment to quality and safety in food.

Banco Santander was a pioneer in the installation of a food processing plant in the Grupo Santander City of Boadilla del Monte (Madrid), a center designed to treat the fruits and vegetables it receives daily.

This Banco Santander facility also boosted the local economy and the activity of the primary sector, supporting the consumption of seasonal fruits and vegetables, and reducing its environmental impact, emissions of polluting gases, and the carbon footprint of this infrastructure.

In addition, Banco Santander was the first financial entity to obtain Aenor’s ‘Zero Waste’ certification, which guarantees that at the Boadilla del Monte facilities, more than 95% of the waste generated returns to the value chain.
