Indian Visa Application Centers in Bangladesh Closed Due to Riots

Dhaka, ⁣Bangladesh – August 8, 2024 -‍ All Indian visa application centers in Bangladesh have been closed indefinitely due to ongoing riots and a volatile political situation ​in‍ the ⁢country. Officials have not⁢ announced a ⁢date for their reopening.

Despite the closure, all Bharat Visa Application Centers will remain open until further notice.⁢ Applicants will be notified of the ‌next available ⁣application date via SMS. Passports can be collected on working days as ‌notified.

This decision​ comes a day after several employees ⁤of the Indian High Commission​ and Consulate in ⁤Bangladesh, along with their families, were⁢ evacuated back ⁤to India. Indian diplomats remain in the country, and the embassy itself ⁢is functioning.

The violence has also extended to Dhaka Zoo, where‌ attackers hunted and killed animals. Graphic footage of the ​attack has⁤ been released online. A group of rioters stormed ⁤the zoo and ‌proceeded to raid and attack caged animals. Hundreds of ​animals have been confirmed dead within the Bangladesh National Zoo alone.
