Quite a few candidates have recently been added to the list of possible names to succeed Xavi in Barcelona, but today (Friday) AS revealed that there is one name that generates more consensus than all of them – Brighton’s Italian coach Roberto de Zerbi.
“De Zerbi has the green light from both Juan Laporte and Deco”, stated AS, where they emphasized that his representatives were in Barcelona last Wednesday, but added that the same representatives also represent Ronald Araujo and mainly discussed the defender’s future in the team.
The main obstacle to De Zarby’s arrival is his release clause, which is in the region of 10 million euros. Barca cannot afford to pay such sums, but his agents asked the club for patience in order to try and reach an understanding with the English team.

The Spanish champion assured De Zerbi’s agents that if they were able to solve the “obstacle” that appeared (the release clause), the Brighton coach would be the one to stand on the lines of the Catalans starting on July 1st. The club’s management sees the Italian as someone who has the required DNA of the Blaugrana.
Pep Guardiola praised De Zerbi and his style more than once and at Barça they noticed it and did not ignore it. The 44-year-old Italian managed to promote quite a few young people throughout his career. In Spain, they noted the fact that the coach is signed with the Seagulls until 2026.
