New blow for the French women’s basketball team: the back Marine Johannès, injured, has withdrawn for the Basketball World Cup which begins Thursday in Sydney, the French Federation announced on Tuesday. Johannes, one of the centerpieces of the Blue, felt pain in the “right thigh” during Monday’s training match against the United States.
“Medical examinations carried out on site in Sydney revealed a muscle injury to the right thigh. Her period of unavailability of a minimum of ten days making her participation in the 2022 World Cup impossible, Marine Johannès is therefore forfeited for the competition, ”added the Federation in its press release.
She is replaced by Mamignan Touré, “who was still there” after appearing in the extended group that made the trip to Australia. Johannès’ package is bad news for the Blue bronze medalists at the Tokyo Olympics last year.
