New DelhiFormer Indian cricketer VVS Laxman has reportedly agreed to head the National Cricket Academy. Laxman will be the new head of the NCA after Rahul Dravid was appointed as the new coach of the Indian team.

Laxman will take over after India A’s tour of South Africa. Former Saurashtra batsman Sitanshu will be in charge of India A’s tour of South Africa. With Laxman’s arrival, Rahul Dravid will be in charge of the NCA, India A and Under-19 teams.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah were aiming to bring another great player to the NCA. Dravid and Laxman have a good rapport. According to BCCI sources, this will pave the way for a more harmonious relationship between Team India and the NCA.

Laxman had refused two months ago

Laxman had rejected the BCCI’s demand for him to head the NCA two months ago. Laxman was the BCCI’s backup option for the post of head coach of the Indian team. If Dravid was not ready, Laxman would have been considered for the coaching job.

Laxman is currently the mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Laxman will have to say goodbye to Hyderabad once he reaches the NCA title. Indications are that an agreement has been reached on matters including Laxman’s remuneration.
