Qatar is making a play for the Olympic Games of 2036, coming after Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032. This ambition received a boost with a recent agreement: beIN Sports has secured the broadcast rights for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics across all network platforms in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena). The deal, signed a few days ago at the Milan Cortina Winter Games, involved Kirsty Coventry, president of the IOC, and Nasser Al Khelaifi, president of beIN, who also leads PSG and sits on the board of Qatar Investment Authority.

Qatar, as many expect, is seriously pursuing the Olympic Games of 2036, bolstered by the infrastructure already in place from hosting the Football World Cup in 2022. The country faces strong competition from India, which has the backing of Nita Ambani, an IOC member since 2017. This broadcast rights agreement could give Qatar an edge as it aims to secure another major sporting event following the 2022 World Cup, a tournament ultimately won by Argentina, led by Lionel Messi, against France and Kylian Mbappe in a dramatic penalty shootout.
