Belen Jesuit Investigates student Gun Video, Enhances Security

A video circulating online apparently showing a student displaying a gun off campus has prompted an investigation by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s office and increased security measures at Belen Jesuit Preparatory School. School officials swiftly notified law enforcement after becoming aware of the video on Wednesday,October 15,2025.
School administrators communicated with parents Wednesday evening, assuring them that the school, located at 500 SW 127th Ave., would operate as scheduled on Thursday, October 16, 2025, and that no direct threats to the institution had been identified.
Investigation Underway by Homeland Security unit
According to MDSO Detective Angel Rodriguez, the agency’s Homeland Security Office is actively investigating the incident and conducting interviews. “We are in the process of conducting interviews,” Rodriguez confirmed to Local 10 News on Thursday, October 16, 2025. As of Thursday afternoon, no arrests had been made in connection with the video.
The school’s response included informing its security team, who are implementing “enhanced security measures” as part of standard operating procedures. A school communication to parents emphasized that the safety of students, faculty, staff, and parents remains the “number one priority.”
Community Vigilance requested
School officials are urging collaboration between all members of the Belen Jesuit community to maintain a safe environment. “We hope that everyone – students, faculty, staff and parents – can work together to remain vigilant,” the email to parents stated.
