Yusuf told the Egyptian Independent that the video had ruined his life. “My life was ruined by a video of an arrogant man who tried to tarnish my reputation and brought the camera to me just to make me look bad,” she said.
“My mistake was to be happy and play with dishonest people. People verbally abused and insulted me. I lost my job, lost my husband and home, and my mother became ill. What happened affected my family, ”she added. (Viral video below)
While a section of the Internet was busy criticizing Yusuf’s election, women’s rights activists in Egypt raised their voices against the issue. The head of the Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights, Dr. Nihad Abu Qumsan offered Yusuf a job in their office. The BBC reports that they advised Yusuf to bring the necessary documents to file a legal complaint against his dismissal.
Following support on social media, the Directorate of Education in Dakhaliya intervened and helped Yusuf get a job as an Arabic language teacher at a new school. Yusuf said the help of the Directorate of Education in Dakhaliya seemed to have restored his dignity.
