State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat commented that Bangladesh Betar is playing a commendable role in the development of the country by creating public involvement in the development activities of the government.

The state minister made this comment in the speech of the chief guest at the discussion meeting organized on the occasion of World Wireless Day 2024 at Bangladesh Betar headquarters premises in Agargaon of the capital on Tuesday (February 13) afternoon.

The State Minister said that Bangladesh Betar is playing a commendable role in the development of the country by establishing good governance, practicing democratic values ​​and creating public involvement in the developmental activities of the government. Bangladesh Betar as well as other commercial FM radios and community radios have to work tirelessly to build a better Bangladesh.

He said, at this time of advancement of information technology, wireless has faced a big challenge. Betar has to move forward by competing with various social media. Along with flashy and cheap entertainment, false, fabricated and outlandish news and untruths and rumors are being spread through these social media. In spite of these adverse and competitive conditions, Betar has been broadcasting objective and reliable programs and news following its own criteria.

The State Minister said that Bangladesh Betar has played an unforgettable role in all the democratic movements of the people of the country including the great liberation war. The role of Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra as a support force to the warriors on the battlefield in the Great War of Liberation is well known. Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech was broadcast on the radio in spite of the obstacles of the then Pakistani dictator at that time in the daring role of the officials of Bangladesh Betar. The nation remembers Bangladesh Betar with gratitude for doing its duty on the side of the liberating Bengalis.

On 3 November 2011, the 36th Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) decided to observe World Radio Day on 13 February. World Radio Day was celebrated worldwide for the first time on February 13, 2012. In continuation of this, the thirteenth World Radio Day has been observed this year. On the occasion of the day, Bangladesh Betar organized a colorful procession, audience conference, discussion meeting and cultural program.
