Scams linked to artificial intelligence have been growing more and more over the past year. While books written with ChatGPT abound on Amazon, scammers are increasing their ingenuity as Christmas approaches. This Monday, journalist Ulysse Thevenon, for example, discovered CCMOM, a deceptive site selling fake clothing whose presentation photos were generated by AI, reports phoneandroid.

Fake photos for real scam
On the home page, as shown in the images relayed by the journalist, we can see various items highlighted, such as children’s sweaters featuring colorful knitted patterns in relief, such as monsters or even mushrooms. The designs, in addition to being attractive, are offered on the site with a -70% discount, for final prices around 27 euros ($29); a boon.
Except that of course, this is a huge scam. All the photos on the site, whether the articles themselves or the photos in which they are worn by children, have been generated by artificial intelligence. More precisely, it was the Midjourney image generation AI that was used.
No real refund
This rather convincing scam, which would be relayed in Instagram advertisements, seems to have circulated a lot. On the community social network Reddit, some users explained that they had fallen into the trap. They placed an order, and in return received clothes where the design was simply printed on fabric, with sometimes very low-end quality.
Finally, if the site does have a refund policy in the event of dissatisfaction, in reality, dissatisfied users would only have received a voucher. Denounced, the CCMOM site is now present in the platform’s database Signal-Scamswhich lists thousands of scams mentioned by French Internet users.
