After three days of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra in Kollam district, action was taken against three Congress leaders. DCC President P Rajendraprasad said in a press release that Salamkudi West constituency president Salim Zainudeen, Youth Congress state secretary Anish Khan and DCC member Kunnikode Shahjahan, who committed violence at a roadside vegetable shop due to low collection for the yatra, have been expelled. However, there is a strong protest within the Congress that action was taken against Shah Jahan who tried to stop the atrocities.

On Thursday evening, the leaders attacked the roadside vegetable shop of S. Hafas in Punalur Fadil Manzil. When Hafaz Kunnikode filed a complaint with the police and it became news including in the national media, the leadership was forced to take action.

On the first day of Yatra’s arrival in the district, senior Congress leader and district coordinator KC Rajan was kicked to the ground by activists. A purse containing Rs 4000 and documents was also stolen. The KPCC leadership sought an explanation from the DCC president regarding the incident. Youth Congress members clashed in groups over the volunteer pass. There was controversy when children were trained at the DCC office during school hours to receive Rahul Gandhi and the PR agency forced them to call Jai for the trip.

A complaint was also raised against the DCC president for collecting Rs 1 lakh from a private medical college without the knowledge of the constituency committee on account of the trip.

The police registered a case against the Congress constituency president who trespassed at a roadside vegetable shop due to the lack of collection given to Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Kunnikode police registered a case against Saleem Zainuddin, president of Palakkudi West constituency.
Shopkeeper Hafas filed a complaint with the Chief Minister and the state police chief on Friday demanding action against all the culprits.

Senior leaders are also dissatisfied with the work of KPCC

Senior leaders who are unhappy with the preparation of the KPCC membership list without adequate consultation are also strongly opposed to the new leadership’s work.

The leaders did not hide this in the KPCC general body that met on Thursday. Even the drafting of a resolution instructing Sonia Gandhi to decide the KPCC president and other office-bearers was not discussed with the senior leaders. Due to this, the resolution failed. When the leaders pointed out that the wording of the resolution to elect only the chairman was wrong, the office-bearers said that they could read it correctly. In addition, the leaders took a position that a new resolution is needed. The leaders are very angry that KPCC published the list and called the meeting even when Rahul Gandhi was marching in Kerala to prevent opposition from coming out.

Senior leaders like Oommen Chandy, VM Sudheeran, Mullapally Ramachandran and others abstained from the crucial KPCC meeting which shows the depth of the protest. The list was prepared on the basis of the formula proposed by KC Venugopal. Sudhakaran and VD Satheesan gave in to it. Many prominent people who stand with Ramesh Chennithala have been omitted from the list. Many leaders have calculated that Rahul Gandhi will respond after leaving Kerala.
