Biathlon individual postponed again

The Biathlon World Cup stops at Holmenkollen in Oslo. If the weather cooperates, both women and men will hit the trails on Friday.

The first decisions are now being made, as the last individual races of the season will take place in Oslo. For women and men, the winners of the small crystal balls will be chosen in the individual competition at the beginning.

Two races on Friday

The men’s singles over the distance of 20 kilometers is on the program on Friday. The race was originally scheduled to start at 2:15 p.m. But since the women’s individual race over 15 kilometers was canceled on Thursday due to the foggy weather and postponed to Friday, the schedule is changing.

Therefore, the women should start the race from 12.30 p.m. before the men’s turn from 3.30 p.m. But the weather wasn’t good on Friday either. The women’s start was postponed to 1 p.m. The men’s race was pushed back by 15 minutes.

Five German biathletes are at the start: Sophia Schneider, Janina Hettich-Walz, Vanessa Voigt, Selina Grotian and Johanna Puff. Franziska Preuß, who is ill, does not get fit in time. Voigt is currently in third place in the individual rankings and still has at least a theoretical chance of winning the small crystal ball.

The German men’s squad includes a total of six athletes, Johannes Kühn, Philipp Nawrath, Philipp Horn, Justus Strelow, Roman Rees and Benedikt Doll, who have already competed at the World Championships in Nove Mesto.

Will Rees get the little crystal ball?

Local hero Johannes Thingnes Boe starts the competition in Oslo in the red jersey. In the individual rankings for the current World Cup season, there are surprisingly three German biathletes in the top five. Roman Rees (121 points, second place), Justus Strelow (86 points, fourth place) and Johannes Kühn (84 points, fifth place) can look back on a successful individual season. The leader in the ranking is Johannes Thingnes Boe with 150 points.

With a win, Rees could overtake Boe and even win the individual World Cup. The winner of the race gets 90 points, Rees’ gap to Boe is only 29 points. The second place winner receives 75 points and the third place winner receives 60 points.
