The American president Joe Biden and the vice president Kamala Harris They had a “productive” telephone conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister on Wednesday, Benjamin Netanyahuon the response to last week’s Iranian missile attack, the White House reported.
“This morning, President Biden spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu. “Vice President Harris also participated in the conversation,” the White House said in a statement.
The call lasted about 30 minutes and was “direct,” “honest” and “productive,” White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre later said.
“The US and Israeli governments have been in discussions since last week after Iran’s attack. Those discussions continued with the president and the prime minister,” Jean-Pierre said.
“We will continue to have those discussions with Israel about how they are going to respond,” added the spokeswoman, who did not provide further details but said they would publish a summary of the call later.
The conversation comes against a backdrop of tension between Biden and Netanyahu, and was the first since August 21, a seven-week gap during which Israel also launched an offensive against Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Biden has warned Israel not to attack Iran’s nuclear plants and has also advised against attacking the country’s oil facilities, which would send oil prices soaring less than a month before the US presidential election.
Kamala Harris replaced Biden on the Democratic ticket and will face former Republican President Donald Trump in the November 5 elections.
Unlike Biden, Trump even suggested last week that Israel should “hit” Iranian nuclear facilities.
