President Joe Biden pointed out that former Republican president Donald Trump is the main threat to freedom and democracy in the United States, in an interview with a Mexican media.
During the interview, Biden addressed issues related to the latin community in the US, as well as for the Mexican audience, by putting on the table the bilateral relationship with Mexico and the challenges migratory.
When the president was questioned about the greatest threat to freedom and democracy in the United States, Biden said:
“Trump says things like ‘will gut the Constitution’ and that he will be a dictator on the first day of his government. The idea that he could have been in an office, which I’m going to show you before you go, attached to the Oval Office, and that he could see for hours the assault on the Capitol, the destruction, the chaos, knowing that there were people who were murdered, there were police officers who died and calling the attackers ‘political heroes’, calling them ‘patriots’; and to say that if he becomes president he will give everyone back their freedom because they are detained illegally, what a thing!” Biden said.
In addition to exposing former President Trump’s statements and facts, the president also discussed the immigration crisis and the proposed Andrés Manuel López Obradorpresident of Mexico to address the root causes of migration.
Joe Biden expressed his support to the idea of generating employment in the countries of origin of migrants as a sustainable solution.
“People don’t want to leave their country. People want to stay and have the opportunity to make a living where they are. That’s why I think AMLO’s idea is in line with what I have proposed and I think so. we should do something like that”, he asserted.
The current president of the North American nation also pointed out that he has a good relationship with President López Obrador, in addition to praising his candor. “He knows what he wants and keeps his word. What more can I ask for? ”He mentioned.
