WASHINGTON, USA (FOLHAPRESS) – The White House has not yet issued an official statement on the death of Henry Kissinger, a fundamental name for American foreign policy in recent decades, on Wednesday night (29).

Asked by a reporter about President Joe Biden’s silence during a press conference this Tuesday, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby replied: “I wouldn’t make any interpretation of that.”

A little earlier, he commented on the death of the former American Secretary of State, but not on his own initiative — a reporter asked him to comment on the fact and Kissinger’s significance for the Biden administration.

“It’s a big loss. He was a man who, whether you agree with him or not, share the same views as him or not, served in World War II, served his country courageously in uniform, and for decades after that,” he said, after expressing condolences to the family .

“We can all be grateful for his public service. There is no doubt that he has shaped foreign policy decisions for decades and has had an impact on the role America plays in the world.”

The White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, did not mention Kissinger during the press conference — which takes place practically every day and in which the government expresses its views on various topics.

The State Department, in turn, released a note around 12 pm (local time, 2 pm Brasília time). Signed by Secretary Antony Blinken, the text highlights several reflections on foreign policy made by the former head of the department.

“As secretary of state and national security advisor, Henry made several history-changing decisions. To serve as America’s top diplomat today is to move in a world that bears Henry’s fingerprint – from the relationships he fostered to the tools he developed and the architecture he built.

Blinken also highlights that, already in office, he sought advice from Kissinger when formulating American policy on artificial intelligence.
