Another 5708 ducks were killed and buried on Thursday in Kattamada area of four and five wards of Vechoor panchayath where bird flu was confirmed.
The ducks of Madan (3000), Ottianichira Suresh Kumar (425), Moolassery Sunimon (1500) and Mitrampally Baiju (783) were buried at Kudavechoor Abhijit Bhavan. Ten teams of Rapid Action Force have been deployed in Vechoor. The work of destroying the birds here continued into the night.
In Kallara and Aymanam panchayats, the process of killing birds within a one-kilometer radius of confirmed bird flu sites has been completed. Disinfection work was done here. On Wednesday, 11,268 ducks were slaughtered and buried in three locations. As of Thursday, 16,976 ducks had been killed.

Bird flu has been confirmed in Kumarakom too. PK Jayasree informed. The confirmation came from the testing of two samples collected from ducks at two locations in the Bank Padi area of the second ward and sent to the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases Lab in Bhopal. The process of killing and burying the birds within a kilometer radius will begin on Friday.
