BJP cut through Murmu, will Mamata reject Sinha? – India President Election Mamata Banerjee | Manorama Online

by time news

New Delhi: Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who tried to take credit by promoting Yashwant Sinha as a presidential candidate, has now been cut off. Mamata is unable to push Yashwant Sinha. Mamata’s doubt is that if she does not support Draupadi Murmu from the tribal community as the BJP candidate, she will invite opposition from the tribal communities, which are Trinamool’s vote bank in North Bengal and Junglemahal.

The other day, Mamata’s response that if the BJP had talked to the opposition before deciding on the presidential candidate, they could have agreed to stop the candidate, had shocked the opposition. Mamata had informed that Yashwant Sinha should not come to Bengal for campaigning and that she would take care of the affairs here.

Meanwhile, Yashwant Sinha suffered a setback in his own state, Jharkhand. In Jharkhand, UPA’s ally Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) also backed away from supporting Sinha. It was Mamata who tried hard to stop Yashwant Sinha as the candidate of the opposition in the July 18 election. Sinha, who is also the vice-president of Trinamool, had resigned before becoming the presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, the candidature of Murmu, who belongs to the Santhal tribe, is literally a big blow to Mamata. 80% of the tribes in Bengal are Santhals. If the BJP campaigns seriously among them, who are the vote bank, Mamata will suffer in their sphere of influence.

As the polling day approaches, the opposition also lacks the enthusiasm seen when the candidate was announced. At first it was expected to give a good fight to the BJP, but later it was seen that the parties from their own camp jumped the other way.

English Summary: Bound by vote bank, Mamata keeps her President-poll pick away
