Apple is preparing to release a significantly lighter MacBook Pro featuring an OLED touchscreen, a Dynamic Island cutout, and an overhauled internal layout by November 2026, according to a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.
The high-end Mac laptop is set to undergo its most substantial product iteration in recent years according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman. The upcoming 14-inch and 16-inch machines will break Apple’s long-standing conservative stance on laptop displays by introducing touch control to the Mac lineup for the first time.
Apple Miniaturizes Parts to Reduce Laptop Weight
Along with touch capabilities, the new machines will be much lighter than their predecessors. Apple has reengineered the interior layout by miniaturizing parts and rearranging components to make the computer much easier to carry. While exact weight figures have not been disclosed, the current 16-inch model weighs up to 4.8 pounds, meaning any reduction will be immediately noticeable for mobile users.

The chassis will also feature a Tandem OLED stacked-screen panel, delivering deeper blacks, higher contrast, accurate color reproduction, and improved peak brightness. The notch will be replaced by a hole-punch camera cutout that integrates with a software-driven Dynamic Island.
macOS 27.2 Adds Support for Finger Input
To support the new hardware changes, Apple is updating its software ecosystem. The upcoming laptops are currently being tested with macOS 27.2, which includes modifications to incorporate finger input alongside the Dynamic Island interface.
Despite the addition of touchscreen support, input will remain secondary to the traditional keyboard and trackpad experience rather than replacing them allowing users to utilize the display when convenient.
New Models Use M5 Chips Before M7 Transition
Under the hood, the new models will run on the existing M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Apple has reportedly chosen to skip the higher-end M6 family in favor of accelerating the transition to the M7 generation, with follow-up models featuring M7 Pro and M7 Max chips already in testing for late 2027 according to industry reports.

Presentation of the redesigned MacBook Pro is expected by next month. However, the combination of multiple new technologies, including the Tandem OLED panel and lightweight materials, could push up the starting price of the new machines.
