by time news

The iX is the first model based on a new, modular and expandable platform, on which the BMW Group will also be based in the future. The iX is the first swallow in the new generation of vehicles trying to redefine the driving experience. The iX combines the functionality of the X5 with the dynamic capabilities of the X6 and the visual impression of the X7. The result is unique proportions of a large sports-recreational vehicle. It is similar in length to the X5 and as tall as the X6. A 3,000mm wheelbase creates a balance between luxurious comfort on long journeys and sporty features in demanding driving.

BMW’s familiar design signature, unique kidney grille and dual headlights – gets a new interpretation in a futuristic style. The grill is completely closed and serves as a smart digital panel containing a camera, radar and other sensors installed behind a transparent surface. The propulsion system includes the electric motor, electronic systems and gearbox and combines them within one unit. This approach allows for a 30% improvement in power intensity compared to previous electric propulsion systems. The latest electric motors developed within the BMW Group boast an efficiency coefficient of 93%. Thanks to their exceptional efficiency, their energy consumption is extremely low. The engines are characterized by super-fast power transmission, a sporty performance profile and extremely quiet operation.

BMW’s fifth-generation e-Drive technology also includes a high-voltage battery that operates on innovative cellular technology. The energy intensity of the lithium-ion battery increased by about 20% compared to the previous generation battery. The new battery is also characterized by better performance, improved charging and discharging capacity, upgraded durability and higher safety. The ratio between its weight and its capacity is also unusual. The warranty on the battery is 8 years or up to 160,000 km.

The iX is produced in two versions, in both the propulsion system includes one electric motor in the front axle and another motor in the rear axle: BMW iX xDrive50 with a total power of 523 hp and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds. The battery capacity is 111.5 kWh (net – 105.2 kWh) and the maximum driving range is between 549 and 630 km, the driving range in the BMW iX xDrive50 model marketed in Israel is 600 km [1].

BMW iX xDrive40 with 326 hp and acceleration from 0 to 100 km / h in just 6.1 seconds. The battery capacity is 76.6 kWh (net – 71KwH) and the driving range is between 375 and 425 km, the driving range in the BMW iX xDrive40 model marketed in Israel is 408 km [1]. The maximum speed in both models is electronically limited to 200 km / h.

The BMW iX is the first model of the BMW Group launched with a hexagon steering wheel. Its polygonal structure is adapted for a smooth transition between autonomous driving and active driving. The unique contours of the spokes, inspired by the racing world, improve vehicle entry and seating comfort. The hexagonal shape helps improve the driver’s field of view towards the convex display located just behind the steering wheel. This structure of the steering wheel redefines the driver’s environment.
